Missions Service Corps
Mission Service Corps (MSC) is a task force of self-funded volunteers who give full-time service (averaging at least 20 hours per week) for four months or more. Their mission assignment comes through the North American Mission Board (NAMB) in partnership with the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware. Mission Service Corps volunteers provide Òhands onÓ mission work in situations where there is a need but not the funding for an appointed NAMB missionary or church staff person.
Mission Service Corps missionaries provide their own financial support or are supported by friends, family, church and ministry partners. MSC Tentmakers use specific vocational skills to support their ministry through marketplace employment, serving in a bivocational capacity.
The genius of MSC is that it is structured so that every Southern Baptist can be directly involved. For some, involvement means a willingness to go and serve; for others, it is becoming ministry partners to financially support someone else to go. For still others, it means faithfully praying for those who go and those who support as ministry partners; and for many, it is a combination of these.
